Panel 1: We open with a dramatic picture of Billy and Katie in action against he Gasman, who is wreathed in clouds of smoky gas, so is just seen as a vague silhouette.

Caption 2: But will even their cat-like abilities be enough to defeat the chemical genius of

Panel 2: Inside a schoolroom. The teacher is pointing at a whiteboard. The pupils include William, Kathleen, school bully Spike and some of Spike's cronies.

Caption: A chemistry class at Burnham Academy.

Teacher: So as matter is heated, it turns from solid to liquid to…

Panel 3: Spike looks alert and slightly alarmed. Teacher looks surprised but pleased.

Spike: GAS!!!

Teacher: Very good, Spike. I'm impressed!

Spike 2: No, sir – I can smell it - gas! It's awful!

Panel 4: Billy looks annoyed as Spike taunts him. Katie is pointing at a ventilation grate in the wall, out of which is coming noxious looking clouds.

Spike: You haven't let one go again have you Grange?

Katie: No. Look. It's coming through the air vent... KOFF!

Ohhh… it's…  KOFF!  …it's disgusting!

Panel 1: Teacher looks up as an alarm goes off. The pupils start to head for the door as, in the corridor, pupils from other classes are starting to head for the exit.

SFX: BRIIIIINNNG!!!

Teacher: That's the… KOFF! …the fire alarm. Alright everyone, assemble outside.

Spike: I take it back, Grange. Not even yours are that bad!

Panel 2: Outside in front of the school, the pupils are gathered as noxious gas pours out of the door and windows. Katie is pointing at something above them, whispering to Billy.

Billy: It's the whole school! Someone's put this into the ventilation system deliberately.

Katie: Billy – up on the roof!

Panel 3: Looking up at the roof from the pupils' point of view, we see the silhouetted figure of the Gasman.

Gasman: I guess what they say is true…

Panel 4: Closer on the Gasman. We now see him properly as he hurls a stink bomb towards the pupils. He wears an improvised costume incorporating an old WW2 style gas mask. He has various shaped canisters and devices suspended from crisscrossed belts across his chest and around his waist. He looks pretty threatening and sinister

Gasman: SCHOOL STINKS!!!

Panel 5: Another noxious cloud erupts in the midst of the pupils. Some are already running out of the school gates as the teacher shouts. Billy and Katie are sneaking off in a different direction, towards the bins at the back of the school, Billy in the lead.

SFX: WHOOOMPF!

Teacher: Everyone – out of here! NOW!

Panel 1: Behind the large school dumpsters, Katie is changing into her costume. They have bags secreted there with their uniforms in. Billy is already costumed, jumping on top of the bins about to make his way up the wall. Katie has his back to him.

Katie: Come on Billy, we'd better get up there.

Billy: Way ahead of you, cuz!

Panel 2: Katie follows up the wall. Billy is almost at the top already.

Katie(mutters): How do you do that so quickly?

Panel 3: On the roof, Billy clambers over the ledge. The Gasman is still there. He turns at the sound of Billy's voice.

Billy: OK, time's up. You've had your fun.

Gasman: Oh look, it's Puss-in-Boots. What… no Shrek?

Panel 4: Katie also appears. Billy can't help smirking. Katie looks puzzled.

Gasman: Ah… there you go.

Katie: What?

Billy: Seriously, guy… are you coming quietly or what?

Panel 5: The Gasman throws another bomb, this one explosive. Billy is thrown backwards by the blast.

Gasman: Seriously?…

OR WHAT!

SFX: BOOOM!

Page 4

Panel 1: Billy lies slumped against a structure on the roof as the Gasman races off, Katie in pusuit.

Billy: Meee-owwwww! Not just stink bombs, then!

Katie: I'll get him Billy!

Panel 2: The Gasman triggers a smoke bomb. Katie is engulfed by the smoke trailing behind him.

Katie: Smokebombs as well? Who is this guy? Some kind of criminal chemistry wiz?

Good job my helmet comes equipped with infra-red vision.

Panel 3: Inset panel. The infra-red view through Katie's visor as the Gasman climbs down to street level. Katie remains on the roof above.

Panel 4: Katie leaps dramatically from one roof to another as the Gasman runs through the streets below, smoke still trailing behind him.

Katie: Time to get ahead of the game.

Panel 5: Katie lands in the street, cutting the Gasman off. The smoke around him makes her landing dramatic and moody.

Gasman: Ahhh!

Katie: Give it up, Gasman!

Panel 6: Close up on the Gasman, Katie reflected in the lenses of his gas mask.

Gasman: Gasman, huh? Bit retro, but I like it! Hope you haven't copyrighted it yet. The papers are going to have to call me something after all…

Panel1: The Gasman throws a pellet which land at Katie's feet.

SFX: WHUMP!

Gasman: …when they write how I beat the great Billy the Cat and Katie!

Katie: Ha! Looks like that one didn't work so…

Panel 2: Katie looks down, realising that her feet are now frozen to the ground, surrounded by ice. The Gasman starts to run off as she is stuck fast.

Katie: …oh.

Gasman: What's the matter? Cold feet?

Panel 3: Inset of Katie looking exasperated.

Katie: Ohhh… you're worse than Billy!

Panel 4: Billy dives in from above, slamming hard into the Gasman, knocking him flying.

Billy: Did I hear someone mention my name?

Gasman: OOOOFFF!

Panel 5: Billy is crouching, the Gasman's mask in his hand. The Gasman is bent over on the ground, his face hidden.

Billy: Well lookee here. Time to see who we're dealing…

Panel 6: Inset. Billy looks shocked as the Gasman looks up. We see the Gasman from the back, so can't see his face.

Billy(small): …with.

Panel 7: The Gasman runs off. Billy just stands there, gas mask in hand. Katie is still trying to get her feet out of the ice.

Katie: Billy… what… what are you doing? You're letting him go!

Panel 8: Close up of Billy. The fleeing figure of the Gasman is reflected in his visor.

Katie(off): Billy?

I relented over my decision never to do another B+K strip and tried to interest the Beano Annual in this story but was told that from now on they're only considering humour strips. Here's the script for the first half. Write your own conclusion!

Yes it's a real shame the adventure strips have been dropped by Thomsons. So much potential gone to waste. I hope they reconsider one day. Also likewise for me re the Phoenix. No response at all.
